Latisse For the growth of eyelashes

 

 

Latisse is bimatoprost ophthalmic solution 0.03% which is a prostaglandin analogue. Another product with the same active ingredient called Lumigan Eye Drops that is used to decrease intraocular pressure in patients with glaucoma. It is the only eyelash growth serum that is FDA approved to enhance eyelash growth in patients with hypotrichosis.

Ingredients of Latisse Eyelash Growth Serum

Active ingredients:

Bimatoprost 0.3 mg/mL

Inactive ingredients:

Sodium chloride, sodium phosphate, dibasic, citric acid and purified water. Sodium hydroxide and/or hydrochloric acid may be added to adjust pH.

Preservative:

Benzalkonium chloride 0.05 mg/Ml


Latisse comes as 3 mL in a 5 mL bottle accompanied by 60 sterile, disposable applicators. One disposable applicator for each eyelid.

 

 

Storage

Should be stored at 2° to 25°C (36° to 77°F) away from the sun lights, heat and moisture. Keep all medications away from children and pets.

It can be used by patients who have inadequate or no enough eyelashes (hypotrichosis).It available by prescription only.

How long does Latisse take to work?

It works gradually and the full results can be seen after 16 weeks of continuous applications. This image below shows the changes in eyelash growth with latisse before and after application.

What will happen if you stop using it?

Its effects are no permanent. Once you stop it, gradually your eyelashes will return to their previous appearance over several weeks.

 

 

Mechanism of action of Latisse

Its exact mechanism of action is unknown but it affects the growth phase of hair by increasing the length, thickness, darkness and the number of hairs.

How to apply Latisse?

1- Ensure the face and the eyelids are clean with no makeup or mascara.

2- Contact lenses should be removed. Latisse has benzalkonium chloride as preservative which can be absorbed by the contact lens. You can wear contact lenses 15 minutes after administration.

3- It is applied once a day at night. Additional application per day won’t increase the growth of eye lashes.

4- One drop of Latisse eyelash growth serum is placed on the disposable sterile applicator which is supplied by the bottle.

5- The applicator is applied to the skin of the upper eyelid, exactly at the base of the eyelashes. It should not be applied to the lower eyelid. Dispose the applicator after finishing. Don’t reuse the applicator.

6- A new applicator should be used for the fellow eye margin in the same way. Dispose the applicator after finishing. Don’t reuse the applicator.

7- Any excess solution that runoff the margin of the upper eyelid should be removed by tissue.

8- The bottle should remain intact and avoid contamination of the tip and the applicator.
