Question

Hi,

I had pink eye when I was a kid, and the doctor told me that I may or may not have complications later on and that I would get a scar from the pink eye in the corner of my eye.

Now at the age of 29 I am suddenly for a few years now getting this burning stinging gritty pain on the corner of my eye and wind irritates it very bad.

It wakes me up at night and I having pain everyday, it is triggered by meat oil or so it seems, and my eyes swells up and my nose and ear start feeling weird with mucus when it's hurting.

I think I need allergy eye drops but it's hard for me to even leave the house when I can't even have my eyes open, it is disturbing my normal everyday life to a huge degree.

I need help, what do you think is my problem, doctor?

Thanks

Answer

Thanks for your Question

Most likely it seems you have allergic eye condition but you need a full examination with an eye doctor to confirm that.

These eye drops can be used in the treatment of allergic eye condition:

1- Lubricant eye drops such as systane eye drops at least 4-5 times a day for 2-3 month.

2- Corticosteroids eye drops such as tobradex eye drops or pred forte eye drops for 2-3 times a day for 1 week.

3- Anti allergic eye drops such as Patanol eye drops, 3 times a day for at least 3 month.

You can use alternatives to these eye drops, what ever available in your country. You should take these eye drops only under the supervision of an eye doctor.

Thanks for taking my problem seriously, now I would like to add more information on this problem.

My right eye is the eye that is affected, and only this one, generally I will go to sleep normal and then wake up with eye pain, it feels like I'm being stabbed in the eye and it also gives me a headache, a runny nose, and a stuffy ear only on the right side when the eye is bad, I take a cloth and get cold water and hold it onto my eye while its closed to relieve some of it and wait out until it gets a little better, the eyelids around the eye do swell up a little bit.

I don't know if it's allergies or related to the pink eye I had that caused a microscopic scar, because that's where it hurts, where the pink eye was. After the stabbing feeling goes away, it feels like the eye is aching and there is sand or grittiness on the eye, and just hurting.

The symptoms seem as if it was conjunctivitis happening over and over again.

Over time it does feel better but I have to keep my eye covered as blinking hurts and my eye is red when it's happening, also any wind blown onto it triggers it into getting bad again, I can't leave the house without my eye being completely covered because of the wind.

I went to an eye doctor and the doctor prescribed me allergy pills for the eye, they determined it was allergy related and I have a history of being allergic to things, allergies to yellow food coloring, ibuprofen, paracetamol, among other things. I don't remember the name of the allergy pills the doctor gave me, sorry.

That's pretty much all the information I can give, my lifestyle is mostly using a computer day-to-day without much breaks so there may be a bit of dry eye providing complication but I don't really know. I would like eye drops that relieve the pain since it's so unbearable to go through, or a doctor being able to figure out exactly what this problem is.

I forgot to add one thing, when my eye is really bad it looks like I'm looking through a cloud and only goes away as the eye gets better.

You might need to follow up with E.N.T doctor to examine your nose, ear and nasal sinus for any blockage.

Sometimes problems of the nose or sinus can cause eye problems such as eye pain and eyelid swelling. Blockage of nasolacrimal duct or tear duct can cause eye discharge with irritation and red eye

Keep using the lubricant eye drop.
