What is the meaning of lasik eye surgery?

Lasik surgery is type of refractive surgery which is used to correct refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism.

What does LASIK stands for?

It stands for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis.

What kind of laser is used in lasik?

Excimer laser with wavefront 193nm is used in lasik. This laser will vaporize corneal tissue in special manner and avoid any further damage to the surrounding tissue. This vaporization is called photo-ablation.

The word excimer is derived from two words, excited and dimers. Excimer laser is formed by a combination of two types of gases.

The first one is inert gas such as argon, krypton, or xenon and the second type of gas is called reactive gas such as fluorine or chlorine.

AT least two days before the surgery, you will not be allowed to apply eye makeup, face lotions or creams because they will build up on your eyelashes and increase the risk of infection.

On days before the surgery, your doctor will ask you to clean your eyelashes daily with shampoo and warm water and sometimes using antibiotics to reduce the risk of infection...Read more about Lasik Procedure
