Question

Hi,

Should Non-Contact Tonometry be performed on an eye with IOP of < 4mm/hg?

I recently suffered from ruptured globe of the iris. Non-contact tonometry was performed on the ruptured eye.

I am now suffering some adverse side effects from the injury and am wondering if the tonometry measurement on the ruptured eye could have caused damage?

Thanks

Thanks for your question

Contact tonometry should not be used in ruptured globe while non contact tonometry can be used with caution in ruptured globe and also it depend on the severity and extent of the rupture.

Non contact tonometry is not as accurate as contact tonometry.
