Question

Hi,

I had cataract surgery on my left eye yesterday and a couple of hours after the surgery I got an excruciating headache and nausea lasting about 5 hours after that I felt O.K.

Today I had an appointment with my doctor to remove my eye patch & I told him about my experience.

He really didn't give me an explanation except to say that the anesthesia may have caused the nausea. He had no explanation for the severe headache. Was this a normal reaction after the eye surgery?

Thanks

Answer

Thanks for your question

Most likely you had temporary increase in intraocular pressure which is a usual thing after cataract surgery and can last from few hours to days.

Most likely your intraocular pressure is back to normal range but I would recommend to ask your eye doctor to measure it in your next visit.
