Question

Dear doctor,

My brother told me that I had slightly squint eyes and after I checked thoroughly I now think he is right. It seems to me that my right eye is a little closer to the center or my left eye is a little closer to the left than normal.

I went to eye doctors many times before but I did not ask to be examined about squint and no doctor said anything about squint. Is it possible that though I have a little squint eyes, doctors could not notice it ?

I was once prescribed eyeglasses of very small numbers like 0.5-1 or something close to that.

later I was diagnosed with conjunctivitis and was prescribed Allergan F.M.L (fluorometholone 0,1%) Ophthalmic Suspension, Elestat eye drops(0.5 mg/ml epinastine ophthalmic), Cortimycine eye pomade(50 mg hydrocortisone acetate,...).

I didn't use eyeglasses much but I used these eye drops for conjunctivitis. It healed and became conjunctivitis again. This time doctor prescribed Oculotect fluid sine, Kemicetine (chloramphenicol) ophthalmic pomade and Okacin antibiotic sterile eye drops(3 mg/ml lomefloxacin, 26 mg glycerin,...).

I bought new boxes of both newly and previously prescribed things for conjunctivitis and have been using them but it does not heal as fast as it should, especially the pus that I have every morning in the inner corners of my eyes.

Also, last time I went, doctor asked me if I had my eyes itching and I said very slightly, I asked if she would prescribe antihistamine drops and she said she won't because I didn't have itching; but even with the slight itching, every time I scratch my eyelids with my hands my eyes get much worse and itch much more.

Do you think I may have squint eyes? Do you think I should go to an eye doctor say I have itching

Thanks

Answer

Thanks for your Question

There are two type of squint, one called true squint which is associated with double vision and the second one is called pseudo or false squint in which the eyes appeared deviated but there are no symptoms of squint such as double vision.

True squint also has two types, intermittent squint and full time squint. Patient with intermittent squint has intermittent symptom of double vision.

If you have double vision, you should tell your doctor about it. If you don't have this symptom, most likely it is pseudo squint which needs no treatment.

If you have severe annoying itching you should tell your doctor to prescribe anti-itching eye drops. F.M.L is very good for itching and it can be used temporary for allergic conjunctivitis.
