Can I use Tobramycin for Pterygium?

Hi,

I have a pterygium in my left eye and i notice that it's growing up and my eye is always red and irritated, so i would like to know if i can use Tobramycin to stops its growing, because i know to remove it only surgery works.

Pterygium is benign abnormal growth of conjunctiva towards the cornea in which sometimes it can invade to the center of the cornea.
 
Most of the time, pterygium gets inflammation but also it can get infection. Symptoms of inflammation are redness, irritation, excessive tears, pain and whitish discharge while symptoms of infection are almost the same except yellowish discharge.
 
Most of the time we use combination of antibiotics and mild steroid such as Fluorometholone 0.1% to treat inflamed pterygium so we can cover both infection and inflammation. We add also artificial tears because pterygium alters the flow of tears on the cornea and conjunctiva and might cause dry eye.
 
There are three things you have to know. First, this is not a permanent cure for pterygium. It will only treat inflamed pterygium.
 
Second thing is that you shouldn't take any steroid medication without consulting your doctor because of the multiple side effects that can occur such as increase in intraocular pressure. So i advise you to visit your eye doctor to have complete eye examination.
 
Third thing is that, if you have recurrent inflamed pterygium,you should discuss with your eye doctor the option of surgical removal of it.
