Question

Hi,

I'm still considering laser surgery but hear that cataract surgeons say that laser surgery makes it very hard for then to calculate the power of the lens implant.

I've also heard that the injury caused by lasers causes a trauma that predisposes the patient to early onset cataract. Is this true?

Thanks

Thanks for your Question

If you have cataract, you should remove the cataract first and then decided if you need further refractive surgery or not. Lasik, lasek or epi-lasik shouldn't be done on patients with cataract.

One of the reason of that is Intraocular Lens calculation won't be accurate after corneal ablation with laser because corneal thickness and curvature will change.

Laser that is used in these refractive surgery doesn't penetrate deep to reach the lens and there is no enough data study to support that patients who had lasik will have a higher risk to develop cataract later in life.
