Question

Hi,

My left eye has been red in the inner corner for about a month. It doesn't burn, itch, water and there is no dis charge. I have no symptoms except redness. Some veins are visible and some areas look cloudy pink. I can't remember any trauma to the eye occurring.

I went to the general practitioner and she told me that she couldn't see anything wrong and refereed me to get an eye exam. I did and was told I needed glasses (I have never worn glasses before) and that my eye was probably red due to strain.

Well it has been a month now and I am wondering if It is something else that could be causing it.What could it be?

Could it just be strain? if so, How long will it take to go away?

Thanks

Thanks for your Question

Most probably you have something called Pterygium. Which is a fibrovascular tissue that arises on the inner corner of the eye. It causes redness on the inner side of the eye and usually has no symptoms. Sometimes, it can get inflamed and in this case, it can be treated with corticosteroid eye drops.

Surgical excision of this tissue is indicated in recurrent inflammation, cosmetic issue and when this tissue invade the cornea.

Another common cause is episcleritis which cause redness in the inner part of the eye. It can cause irritation and dryness and can be treated with NSAIDs such as Voltaren Ophtha and Corticosteroid eye drops.
