My Baby eyes slightly off
My baby boy is 8 month old, I think 1 eye is slightly off, I had him checked at 2 Hospitals in Bangkok and both said he was ok but only did the light test and 1 dis patch test.
He is very alert and reacts both left and right and up and down but 1 eye just doesn't seem to move exactly the same as the other.
Did you see this before? Is it common with baby's?
I don't trust the Bangkok hospitals 100%
Can you please advise me?
Thanks for your Question
Squint or Abnormal eye deviation can be due to hidden refractive errors or due to weak eye muscles from birth or pseudo squint. These pseudo squint is due to the facial features of the baby which give the impression that the eyes are look in different directions. One of these facial features is wide nasal bridge.
The reflex of light from the corneal is very importan. The position of Light reflection from the cornea should be at the center of the pupil in both eye as shown in the attached picture. In this test we can differeniate between real squient or pseudo-squint
Your eye doctor should apply dilating eye drops such as cyclopentolate eye drops or atropine eye drops. These eye drops will dilate the pupil and relax ciliary muscles inside the eye. Any hidden refractive errors can will appear.
