Hello Doctor!

I had an accidental momentary (1-2 second) gaze at the sun during the eclipse in August. I experienced pain, blurred vision, sensitivity to light, an increase in floaters, and dim vision/reduced night vision. I am concerned about solar retinopathy.

I have seen three different ophthalmologist and a retinal specialist - all have said my eyes are perfectly healthy and show no signs of solar or diabetic retinopathy. OCT has been done 4 times along with fundus photography and there are no visible signs of any damage.

The pain, blurred vision, sensitivity to light and dim vision have not improved. Is it possible to have solar retinopathy and have all these tests come back "normal"? This has become a source of great anxiety and I am extremely concerned about my vision.

Thanks for your Question

These investigations should show signs of solar retinopathy. Most likely if these are normal, then you don't have solar retinopathy. In case these symptoms persist, further investigations should be done to rule out others causes such as visual field and multifocal electroretinography.
