Answer

Thanks for your Question

These symptoms that you have are mainly caused by dry eyes. Dry eyes are very common after cataract eye surgery.

The causes of dry eyes after cataract surgery are:

1- Corneal wound that is created by the eye doctor in order to remove the cataract can cause damage to corneal nerves which are very important for the regulation of the productions of tears.

2- Eye drops that are used after the cataract surgery can also cause dry eyes because most of these eye drops have preservative ingredients which can be toxic to corneal epithelial cells. Damage epithelial cells can also cause dry eyes.

3- Ocular Inflammation that occurs after cataract surgery can also cause dry eyes

You should keep using the eye drops that your doctor prescribed for you after the surgery and you can add lubricant eye drops that is preservative free such as Systane UD at least 3-4 times per day.
