Question

Hi,

My father has bought me Air Optix plus Hydraglyde with -3.00 PWR and the optician I have bought it from claimed that I should be wearing it for up to 5 days in a row and only take it out after that time period to submerge it in contact lenses solution for an hour and then repeat the cycle.

I am very concerned for the safety of my eyes and decided to somehow get a consultation to make sure that I will be okay.

I have done my homework and read about these certain kinds of contact lenses but most of them claim that while it is "safe" to sleep in them, it is recommended to take them out overnight.

Thank you

Answer

Thanks for your Question

Extended wear contact lenses are made from materials that enable better breathe of contact lens thus reduce complications. However, Overnight wear of contact lenses has been shown to increase the risk of serious contact lens related complications such as contact lens related infection.

I recommend to remove contact lens before sleeping but you can wear it overnight under certain circumstances such as during a trip
