Question

Hi,

I wear glasses (I have hyperopia). I tried wearing contact lenses 2 times in my life and everything was normal but one day something very strange has happened to me.

While wearing it for the second time, I started to see halos and rainbow circles around any strong source of light. ( I don’t suffer from dry eyes, cataract or glaucoma) .

All happened after wearing it ( I wore it for 9 hours) . My eyes don’t hurt and are not red but I see rainbows around strong lights. I guess my cornea is swelling but I don’t know how to treat it so please help me.

I need your help.

Thank you.

Answer

Thanks for your Question

You are right. rainbow lights mean you have a swelling cornea from wearing contact lenses for a long time. Cornea depends on the oxygen in the tears to function normally, with wearing contact lenses for long hours, there will be oxygen deprivation because contact lens interferes with normal flow of tear over the cornea.

You have to take the contact lenses for few days till your cornea return to normal by itself. just use systane more frequently

Try not to wear contact lenses more than 6-7 hours per day and always use rewetting eye drops such as systane for contacts
