Question

Hi,

So I am a student in high school and we use laptops a lot for assignments and I find that when I read off the monitor for more than 5 minutes my eyes will burn up and I will start crying.

The thing is that I have 20/20 vision so Is there something else behind this? I also find that inverting colors, turning down the brightness, and turning on night mode on the monitor does help but not enough to stop my eyes from burning.

Reading off a backlit screen in general, makes my eyes burn. Is there a reason for this?

Thanks

Answer

Thanks for your question

Working for a longtime on laptop can cause dry eyes and computer eye strain. Dry eyes can cause light sensitivity, burning sensation and excessive tearing.

You have to rest your eyes and try to blink more frequently while working on the computer as people who work on computer blink less than normal.

You can use over the counter preservative free lubricant eye drops such as systane eye drops to help to minimize these symptoms.
