Question

Hi,

Following a vitrectomy for a detached retina, I was prescribed Ketorolac drops to be used 2 times a day.  I have been on these drops for one year now and was told to continue them.

Are Ketorolac drops safe for long term use?  Are there any side effects I should be concerned about?

Thanks

Answer

Thanks for your Question

That is a long period. I don't recommend to use this eye drop and other related NSIADs eye drops for a long time as there are many reports of corneal epithelial defects and corneal melting and damaging that can occur from these eye drops.

You have to discuss this issue with your doctor and also you have to know why you have been using this eye drop for 1 year.
