Question

Hi,

I've had floaters all my life but recently noticed more including small lines of light that float down occasionally

I went to my local optometrist and he ran some test before telling  me my eyes were perfectly healthy and nothing was wrong (even showed me photos of my eyes). I don't feel convinced as I still see floaters and small lights, occasionally.

What should I do? and does seeing lights always mean retina tearing ?

Also should I see ophthalmologist ? is there a significant difference between the two?

Thanks in advance

Answer

Thanks for your Question

Most of eye floaters are benign and are caused by posterior vitreous detachment. You have to visit an ophthalmologist to exam the back of your eye and retina just to be sure there is no retinal tear or holes.
