Question

*Text by my wife:

Hi,

We are currently traveling in Vietnam and I got some eye infection. The eye was itching me and I had one white pimple inside of my eyelid.

We went to a local clinic in a small city. The doctor squeezed the pimple and gave me Cefpodoxime 200 - HV (to drink for 3 days 2 pills in the morning, 2 pills in the evening), Bitrepso Alphachymotrypsin 4200 IU (to drink for 3 days, 2 pills in the morning, 2 pills in the evening) and eye drops TobraDex Alcon (to use it for 3 days, every few hours).

After those 3 days, everything was better for the next 3 days. But then pimples reappeared in the same place. It's not itching me, it's not red. I don't feel that I have it in my eye. But I have 2 of them inside of my eyelid.

I went again to the same clinic and the doctor just gave some other pills. Cadiazith 500 Azithromycin 500 (to drink for 5 days, 1 pill in the morning, 1 pill in the evening), Alpha Choay Chymotrypsine 21 Microkatals (to drink for 5 days, 2 pills in the morning, 2 pills in the evening) and Vitamin C (to drink for 5 days, 2 pills in the morning, 2 pills in the evening).

Usually, I wear contact lenses, but for the last 2 weeks, I wear just eyeglasses. I am really careful and always use drinkable water and anti-bacterial soap to wash my hands before putting lenses. I also change my pillowcase regularly.

Could you please give me advice should I continue to use those pills (3 days left) or what could I buy or do to solve it?

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Answer

Thanks for your Question

Most likely what you have is chalazion which is inflammation of fat gland on the eyelid. There is no need of all these oral medications. Tobradex eye drops twice a day for a week is enough to reduce pain, redness and swelling. Once these signs disappear a small nodule can still exist and should be removed surgically in a very simple procedure.

There no harm of waiting for a couple of weeks till you return back home to remove it.
