Question

Hi there,

I’ve been prescribed antibiotic drops for the chalazion. I’ve had in both my eyes for over a month and they don’t seem to be working at all.

Also now my eyes are extremely bloodshot red to the point where they’re scary looking and I’m at loss of what to do.

I need to know why this is happening and what I could do to cure it

Thanks

Answer

Thanks for your Question

You have to know that challazion is not an infection so antibiotics eye drops won't be helpful. Surgical removal is the only treatment of chalazion.

Stop using the antibiotics. Antibiotics eye drops have preservative materials which in long term it can cause corneal abrasions, dry eyes, and red eye.

Use preservative free lubricant eye drops to reduce corneal abrasion and dry eyes. If you didn't notice any improvement within few days you should follow with your eye doctor for further evaluation.
