Question

Hi,

I m 18 and i have -9 D in both eyes i want to confirm that whether i can go to gym or not because last time the doctor told me to stay away from sports and not to do weight lifting as there is a risk of retinal detachment. I want to know if i can join a gym or not just for some fitness purpose i don't want to be body builder.

I also want to know if I can use contact lenses and if can do Lasik eye surgery

Thanks

Thanks for your question

Any form of exercise that doesn't involve direct trauma to the head or face or eyes is acceptable.

You should have full eye examination especially to the peripheral of your retina in order to find any weak area of your retina that might required laser to seal them.

You should have several diagnostic tests in order to see if you are a good candidate for Lasik or not.

You can use contact lenses instead of eyeglasses and you should follow with your optometrist regarding this issue.
