Question

Hi,

It was pointed out to me that there is a large blue spot on the white of my eye that was never there before. I'm wondering if this is something I should have checked out soon? Or if it's harmless.

Thanks

Answer

Thanks for your Question

This blue area represents thinning in the sclera. It can be caused by previous attacks of episcleritis or scleritis. Did you have any attacks before of red eye or do you have any systemic diseases?

Hello,

No I have not experienced either of those previously and do not have any health issues.

Most likely, It could accidental scleral thinning without any definite cause and doesn't need any treatment but sometime there might be an underlying pathological cause and further evaluation and assessment is required. I would prefer to visit an eye doctor for physical assessment of the condition.
