Swollen Optic nerves
Question
Good day,
I took my daughter for a routine eye test today and was told that both her optic nerves are swollen and we need a referral to see a specialist. They did not say much but i wish to know more as to what this may mean as we are only seeing the specialist tomorrow.
Thank you
Answer
Thanks for your Question
Most of the time, optic disc swollen called pseudo-swollen which means that the disc appears swollen but there are no causes and it will not cause any problems.
Other causes such as optic nerve infection, inflammation, benign increase intracranial pressure, brain tumor and multiple sclerosis. These causes are associated with other symptoms such as blurred vision, headache, body weakness and numbness.
Hopefully it will be a pseudo swollen and nothing to worry about.
Keep me posted on what your doctor will say.
