Soft contact lenses for 6 years now

Question

Hi,

I have worn soft contact lenses for the past 6 years and have never had a problem removing them. Recently, my left contact (which is also my eye with astigmatism) has been drying out during the day and making removal painful and difficult.

The contact sucks on to me eye and avoids my grip so I have to saturate it with saline solution and rub it continuously to get it out which can take several minutes. After this my eye is irritated and red.

During the day, the left always seems more blurry than the right. I have tried lubricating drops, but they don't seem to help for more than a few minutes. I am using the same brand of contacts that have worked well for me in the past and even switched the pair just to make sure.

The right has no problem it is only the left. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks for your Question

Wearing contact lenses for a long time can cause dryness of the cornea. I would take off contact lenses for few days and use preservative free lubricant eye drops such as systane UD.

While you are wearing the contact lens you can use rewetting drops to moisturize your lens such as refresh contacts and systane contacts.

Some people can develop allergy to contact lenses especially those people who had wearing contact lenses for several years. In this case try to change the brand of the lens.

In case you didn't feel any improvement, you should visit your eye doctor.
