Question

Hi,

I have two styes on my right bottom eyelid that I can't get rid of. I have been using warm compresses and taking medication that a doctor has given but it doesn't work. I've had this issue in the past and a doctor had to remove it.

I recently spoke to a doctor to see about excising or draining the styes and he said that it was bad because it would scar my eyelids, mess up the oil glands and give me issues in the future?

Does that happen when you get the surgery?

Thanks

Thanks for your question

What you have is called chalazion not stye and you have recurrent chalazion. the main cause of recurrent chalazion is persistent belpharitis which is inflammation or infection of the eyelid margin. Read this article about treatment of blepharitis.

Extensive surgical removal of chalazion can cause scar of the eyelid. Steroid injection can sometimes be helpful for the treatment of chalazion.
