Hello Doctor,

I'm 23 years old, wearing glasses for the past 14 years. At present i have a power od -9 in right eye, -9.5 with -1 cylindrical in my left eye.

Doctors are suggesting me to undergo custom epi lasik procedure to correct this refraction.

Please tell whether i'm eligible for custom epi lasik procedure and what will be the out come of this procedure? Will there be any side effects of some sort?

Thanks for your Question

Usually Lasik Surgeons prefer to do Epi-Lasik Surgery for high myopic patients. There is a difference between Lasik and Epilasik. Lasik, there is a flap creation through the stromal layer of the cornea. Stroma is the middle layer of the cornea.

In Epi Lasik or PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) there is either creation of flap through the epithelial layer which is the outer most part of the cornea or the epithelial layer is removed completely and regenerated again after few days to weeks.

Read more information about Epi Lasik. In order to be a good candidate for Lasik eye surgery, you should pass many factors and the most important one is corneal topography.

Lasik surgery is a safe procedure but still there is some risks and complications which can be reduced or even eliminated under the hands of an experienced lasik Surgeon.
