Answer

Thanks for your Question

In Epi-Lasik, there is no Corneal flap as in Lasik but there is epithelial Flap. You can say it is the hybrid form of PRK ( Photorefractive Keratectomy). Epi-Lasik stands for Epithelial Lasik Laser eye surgery.

Epithelial layer is the out layer of the cornea with a thickness of 30-50 Microns which the corneal flap in Lasik is 90-120 Microns.

In Epi-Lasik, epithelial seperator is used to separate epithelial layer from the cornea, Excimer laser is used then to reshape the cornea according to the refractive errors then the epithelial flap is put back again into place.

In PRK, this outer epithelial layer is removed completely and a new one will be formed by itself within few days.
